Task redistribution (TR) among health professionals is considered a means of improving quality and cost-efficiency of care. However, it is still relatively rare in Swiss outpatient primary care. Using a qualitative approach, this study researches how decision makers implement TR in this setting. In particular, it focuses on TR from general practitioners (GPs) to advanced practice nurses (APNs). By shedding light on decision makers’ motivations, challenges and coping strategies, the study has the potential to provide health policy makers with the necessary information to further promote TR implementation in the future.
