Prof. Dr. Andreas Balthasar

Andreas Balthasar studied economics and history of economics at the University of Bern and then worked as a research associate at the Research Centre for the History and Sociology of Swiss Politics at the University of Bern. He completed a habilitation (post-doctoral qualification for research and teaching at professorial level) at the Faculty of Economics & Social Science at the University of Bern in the spring of 2007, and was named titular professor of political science at the University of Lucerne in 2010.

Balthasar founded Interface Policy Studies Research Consulting in 1991 in Lucerne. Interface specializes in evaluation of policy measures and programs. Balthasar’s main areas of research are policy analysis and evaluation research. In addition, he concentrates mainly on Swiss social and health policies.

From 1987 to 2007 he taught at the Institute of Political Science at the University of Bern. He also directed various further education courses on evaluation. He has been a member of the Department of Political Science at the University of Lucerne since 2007. Since 2013 he is also member of the Department of Health Science and Health Policy (now Department of Health Sciences and Medicine) at the same university.
